One banana, two banana....

Posted just for the Guv'ner

Now see, both Guv'ner and I have passports that say "Her Majesty" on them, and we remember this show. According to Wikipedia it was made by Hanna Barbera and shown on NBC...but how is it only British people remember it ?

Oh that is just EVIL. :) That damn theme song will keep me awake all night. There will be revenge...

I had to make sure when you couldn't get it out of your head that you were getting the words correct ;-)

I shall await your youtube data mining to find revenge ;-)

Magic Roundabout theme ? Captain Pugwash ? ;-)

Or that really annoying theme tune from "Rhubarb"!

Man, the Magic Roundabout. Those writers in the '60s and '70s were way too fond of 'shrooms. My earliest memory is being afraid of Brian the Snail. Something about his overly rosy cheeks and odd shaped nose...

You should read the wikipedia entry on it - originally French - "Le Manège enchanté", narrated by Emma Thompson's father, though later ones were Nigel Planer of the Young Ones. More trivia there than you can shake a stick at.

And more drug references, lets think, a stoned hippy rabbit, a dog constantly chasing sugar cubes, and as for Ermintrude...

Of course, any Americans reading this will be scratching their heads, to which I say...

Flob-a-lob !

I always wanted to lick Ermentrude (but not in a rude way). She looked like a giant pink candy cow. Plus Dougal was way, WAY too fond of those sugar cubes... Plus let's face it, the whole landscape of the show could only be conceived by someone who spent hours in the desert with a tab under their tongue and a beard down to their feet.

I think I had a Magic Roundabout Viewmaster back in the day. Remember those?

OH. MY. GOD. My secretary and I were cracking up over this last year. There was some cute, hopelessly young PA standing at her desk and we were talking about favorite childhood TV shows, and she just stared at us dumbfounded as we sang the ENTIRE song.

You blokes missed out on Sydney the Seamonster - good times.

I just have to ask. As an adult, just how do you wish to lick Ermintrude ?

Its just not right, I know she could roll that flower from one side of her mouth to the other, but even so...

But I guess now I understand my mother's view of the tellytubbies, even though I had an infant son, she explained their shape was appealing, and the talk like an infant (research shows that is the intent).

The Wigglies, now thats just plain disturbing, and don't get me started on that purple Dinosaur.

A viewmaster ? Do you mean one of those binocular things that show pictures ? you had one ?

Oh....and it appears we have found an American that knows the Banana Splits !!! Hello Broadsheet ! :-)

4 banana, 3 banana, 2 banana, one !...

tra la la, tra la la la, tra la la, tra la la la...

No, no! I wanted to lick Ermintrude WHEN I WAS A CHILD, not an adult. I mean I'm not that perverted!

And yes, the Viewmaster was that thing you put the round slide viewer in and you pulled the lever and the slide changed. I inherited mine from my cousin who outgrew it. I was fascinated. A Magic Roundabout 3D world! It was like BEING THERE.

LOL, I remember that show. Actually, I can't tell you anything about the show, but I vividly remember that opening.

You must also post a clip from the opening of Land of the Lost, and HR Puff n Stuff.

The 70's were crazy, I'm kinda glad I was too young to grasp it. :)
